Current IssueSignal Integrity
If you don’t have signal integrity problems now, you will eventually. This month, our expert contributors share a variety of SI techniques that can help designers avoid ground bounce, crosstalk, parasitic issues, and much more.
Proper Floor Planning
Floor planning decisions can make or break performance, manufacturability, and timelines. This month’s contributors weigh in with their best practices for proper floor planning and specific strategies to get it right.
Showing Some Constraint
A strong design constraint strategy carefully balances a wide range of electrical and manufacturing trade-offs. This month, we explore the key requirements, common challenges, and best practices behind building an effective constraint strategy.

DownStream Webinar May 6: PCB Documentation Tips
April 30, 2020 | DownStream TechnologiesEstimated reading time: Less than a minute
Current tools and methodologies for PCB documentation are essentially workarounds that, rather than automating, in fact create obstacles to quickly producing detailed and accurate PCB documentation.
What is needed is a new approach to PCB documentation—a standalone PCB document authoring tool, developed in the style of Microsoft Office, which quickly creates electronic drawings to drive the PCB fabrication and assembly processes; a tool that “knows” it is creating a PCB document and leverages the PCB CAD data to automatically create and intelligently link PCB views, details, document notes, external documents, URLs and multimedia content.
Attendees will learn how to use BluePrint for Circuit Boards to take control of their documents through automation, while enhancing detail, accuracy, and instructions. High-quality PCB documentation leads to fewer questions, fewer errors, lower overall costs, and huge time savings.
This webinar takes place twice on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.

What EMS Firms Want From Their Software—and What They Get
09/03/2025 | Thiago Guimaraes, Global Electronics AssociationLast November, the Global Electronics Association [as IPC] surveyed EMS and OEM companies to better understand the software tools driving their operations and uncover trends in adoption, satisfaction, and challenges. The survey assessed software tools across critical functions, including ERP, MES, PLM, QMS, LMS, quoting systems, and CRM. Participants shared insights on tool adoption, satisfaction, and selection priorities.
Integrated Solutions for Board-level Reliability: A Smarter Path Forward
08/27/2025 | Alan Gardner, MacDermid Alpha Electronics SolutionsIn today’s electronics manufacturing landscape, reliability is no longer just a benchmark but a business imperative. As industries such as automotive, aerospace, and high-performance computing (HPC) push the boundaries of innovation, the demand for dependable board-level performance under extreme conditions has never been greater.
How Good Design Enables Sustainable PCBs
08/21/2025 | Gerry Partida, Summit InterconnectSustainability has become a key focus for PCB companies seeking to reduce waste, conserve energy, and optimize resources. While many discussions on sustainability center around materials or energy-efficient processes, PCB design is an often overlooked factor that lies at the heart of manufacturing. Good design practices, especially those based on established IPC standards, play a central role in enabling sustainable PCB production. By ensuring designs are manufacturable and reliable, engineers can significantly reduce the environmental impact of their products.
