PVA, a global supplier of automated dispensing and coating equipment, has announced a new initiative to assist in the Ukrainian war effort. The company has teamed up with Mission Ukraine and Ukraine Focus to donate equipment and ship life-saving supplies to the front lines to assist soldiers and civilians alike.
PVA is donating an Emergence PRO™ 3D Printer to Mission Ukraine’s main office in Latvia. The printer will aid in creating prosthetics for those that need them the most and help patients return home, or back to the battlefield, with new confidence. Additionally, PVA is working closely with Ukraine Focus to ship donations from various organizations including bulletproof vests, helmets, medical supplies, computers, and items for children. PVA will also donate 44 of its PREVENT™ ventilators to help those in need.
"Through this partnership with Mission Ukraine and Ukraine Focus, PVA is proud to be able to make a tangible difference in the lives of those impacted by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine," said Frank Hart, Managing Director at PVA. "We hope that our contributions will help to alleviate some of the hardships faced by soldiers and civilians alike."
PREVENT™ is an emergency ventilator originally designed to treat patients suffering from COVID-19 respiratory failure. This motorized device automatically compresses a bag-valve mask to provide air to the lungs of a patient, eliminating the human error and fatigue that results from manual resuscitation. While the ventilator was designed for COVID-19 patients, it has been repurposed to assist in emergency situations such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Rules of Thumb for PCB Layout
11/21/2024 | Andy Shaughnessy, I-Connect007The dictionary defines a “rule of thumb” as “a broadly accurate guide or principle, based on experience or practice rather than theory.” Rules of thumb are often the foundation of a PCB designer’s thought process when tackling a layout. Ultimately, a product spec or design guideline will provide the detailed design guidance, but rules of thumb can help to provide the general guidance that will help to streamline the layout process and avoid design or manufacturing issues.
Flexible Thinking: Rules of Thumb: A Word to the Wise
11/20/2024 | Joe Fjelstad -- Column: Flexible ThinkingIn the early days of electronics manufacturing—especially with PCBs—there were no rules. Engineers, scientists, and technicians largely felt their way around in the dark, making things up as they went along. There was a great deal of innovation, guessing, and testing to make sure that early guidelines and estimates were correct by testing them. Still, they frequently made mistakes.
