Anaya Vardya, President and CEO of American Standard Circuits/ASC Sunstone recently announced that the company’s West Chicago division has passed their AS9100 recertification audit. AS9100 is the quality management system standard for the aviation, space, and defense industries that sets requirements for design, development, production, installation, and service of products such as PCBs.
“Our quality and process controls have never been more robust. We have spent the past few years preparing our West Chicago facility to take on the most complex PCB technology jobs for sectors such as military and aerospace. We wanted to service these very high-end customers with the unbeatable quality and upgrades and changes we have made are a testament to that goal. We are our proud of our team and their ability to raise our company’s game to the level they have in the past two years,” said Mr. Vardya when making the announcement.

The Chemical Connection: Getting the Best from Your Cupric Chloride Etchant
12/04/2024 | Don Ball -- Column: The Chemical ConnectionOver the past several months, we have received a lot of questions from our customers about cupric chloride etching—mostly about how to improve etch quality, but also about process problems. Most of them were easily dealt with, but the questions arose because the people involved in running the etching process were not aware of the finer nuances involved in using cupric chloride as the primary etchant. (They don’t have courses on etching in most colleges and trade schools.) I thought this might be a good time to summarize some things I have learned in my 50 years of experience with cupric chloride etching and clear up some of the confusion.

Even when hiring was easier, hiring for the quality department has always been especially challenging. It takes a special kind of person: someone with attention to detail, someone ready to stand for his or her convictions, and someone who can stand up under pressure when the company needs to ship product and the quality manager refuses to because it is not up to par. The quality department is the very soul of any manufacturing company.
