Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.
Looking Forward to APEX EXPO 2026
I-Connect007 Magazine previews APEX EXPO 2026, covering everything from the show floor to the technical conference. For PCB designers, we move past the dreaded auto-router and spotlight AI design tools that actually matter.

Compunetics Advances PCB Manufacturing with MicroCraft’s Dual-Ink CraftPix Inkjet Printer
September 30, 2025 | MicroCraftEstimated reading time: 1 minute
MicroCraft, a global leader in advanced PCB testing and digital inkjet printing systems, has completed the installation of its CraftPix C2K6151PT dual-ink inkjet printer at Compunetics, Inc., a premier flex and rigid printed circuit board manufacturer located just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The C2K6151PT is a next-generation dual-ink platform, which enables back-to-back printing of different inks — such as solder mask followed by legend — and with a sophisticated ink delivery system, it allows operators to swap ink colors or types in just 30 minutes. Competing systems require costly changeovers which take days of service just to go from green to black mask. The flexibility enables Compunetics to inkjet mask, legend, and etch resist inks on a single system, eliminating the traditional multi-step process of spray, tack, exposure, and developing.
“By installing MicroCraft’s CraftPix system, Compunetics is taking a major step forward in digitizing its PCB manufacturing process,” said Garrett Harding, Sales Manager at USA MicroCraft. “The ability to transition seamlessly between mask and legend printing on the same machine dramatically streamlines production, reduces environmental impact, and enhances overall efficiency.”
MicroCraft has been developing inkjet systems for 25 years. The CraftPix series reflects the company’s commitment to replacing legacy methods with fully digital, eco-friendly processes. Features such as precision droplet placement, automatic ink recycling, and on-head UV curing deliver high accuracy, reduced waste, and lower operating costs.
Founded in 1968, Compunetics has long been recognized for its high reliability printed circuit boards serving the aerospace, defense, medical, and telecommunications industries. The installation of the CraftPix C2K6151PT strengthens Compunetics’ position as a state-of-the-art U.S. manufacturer, offering its customers faster turnaround times and greater design flexibility.
