L-3 Communications announced today that it has been competitively awarded a $30 million contract from the U.S. Coast Guard to missionize two C-130J aircraft using a next-generation mission system suite. The total value of the contract, with all options exercised, is approximately $93 million and work will be performed by L-3 Platform Integration in Waco, Texas.
The government-owned mission system was developed jointly by the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy and is operated across multiple platforms.
Under the five-year contract, L-3 will integrate mission systems on two baseline configuration C-130J long-range surveillance aircraft. The contract’s multiple options include performing the same work on three additional baseline configuration aircraft and converting seven HC-130J aircraft.
“We are excited to extend our C-130 missionization experience to the U.S. Coast Guard fleet. Our team’s experience with the C-130 platform and this mission system will be important in delivering these aircraft that will improve the long-range surveillance capabilities for the U.S. Coast Guard,” said Mark Von Schwarz, president of L-3’s Aerospace Systems business segment.
L-3 will produce, install, test and deliver the mission system on each aircraft. It has performed similar missionization work for the U.S. Navy.
L-3 Platform Integration has delivered hundreds of C-130 aircraft, performing mission and weapon systems integration, avionics modernization, and heavy structural refurbishment for numerous customers, including the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Special Operations Command and numerous international C-130 operators.
This new contract expands L-3’s work with the U.S. Coast Guard. The company currently provides communications systems design and production work, C4ISR integration equipment and services, and information assurance expertise to several platforms, including the Offshore Patrol Cutter, Fast Response Cutter and National Security Cutter. L-3 is also providing information assurance and integrated communications products and sustainment work for Coast Guard command centers, as well as supporting legacy cutter upgrade initiatives.
