The Big Picture: Not One, But Three Grey Rhinos

09/30/2026 | Mehul Davé -- Column: The Big Picture
Copper just touched a record high, and laminate suppliers have raised prices in double-digit increments across separate rounds. Oil spiked, collapsed, and is climbing again. Tariffs keep shifting under everyone's feet. If you say all of that in one breath, it sounds like a single undifferentiated mess: Everything costs more, and nobody's sure why or when it stops.

Standard of Excellence: Engineering Collaboration Has Become the New Sales Strategy

09/30/2026 | Anaya Vardya -- Column: Standard of Excellence
Engineering collaboration has become the industry's most powerful sales strategy. It’s no longer only about price, lead time, and shipping. Today’s most successful companies are helping customers build better products before a purchase order is ever issued. OEM’s seem to be facing unprecedented design complexity. Products are smaller, faster, lighter, and more sophisticated while reliability expectations rise. At the same time, component availability, material selection, manufacturability, regulatory compliance, and supply chain uncertainty have made successful product development more challenging than ever.

Xscindo: No Data, No Landfill, No Waste

09/23/2026 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007 Magazine
Xscindo is a start-up recycling company developing an alternative approach to conventional e-waste processing, focusing on transforming discarded electronics into clean, recoverable critical and precious metals rather than losing them to traditional disposal and recycling streams. Xscindo's work sits at the intersection of circularity, resource security, and a rapidly expanding need for critical materials, and speaks to a much larger challenge facing the electronics industry: finding better ways to keep valuable resources in circulation rather than exporting them. In this interview, Aiden Neary, founder and CEO, tells us more about this important work.

The Chemical Connection: More Solutions to Common PCB Etching Questions

09/09/2026 | Don Ball -- Column: The Chemical Connection
Rather than pontificating at great length on a subject I know nothing about, although I have been known to do this on occasion (the scientific term for this is “baffling them with bull****”), I decided to comment on some basic questions and problems that keep popping up in spite of them having been around forever and having known solutions. Most of the inquiries come from the new process engineers who are being promoted as the older, more experienced process engineers retire. They’re so basic that the older people don’t even think about them anymore, let alone pass the knowledge on, so when these questions or problems arise, the new people are unaware that there are explanations and/or solutions.
