Four DevOps Infrastructure Automation Vendors Named as IDC Innovators

International Data Corporation (IDC) has just released an IDC Innovators report recognizing four innovative automation vendors with revenue under $100 million providing development operations infrastructure.
The four vendors recognized as IDC Innovators are: Chef, HashiCorp, Puppet, and SaltStack.
Chef's hybrid business model provides a platform for traditional infrastructure automation as well as more modern DevOps capabilities and has a robust open source community. HashiCorp offers a workflow-centric modular approach to product design to manage complexity and support large-scale deployments. Puppet has a declarative programming language and an open source-based platform to help enterprise IT and DevOps teams with common machine-readable language across mainframes. SaltStack uses an event-driven architecture that treats all client-side activity as events, enabling the "Salt Master" to interpret and automate reaction using predefined policies.
"Infrastructure automation is a critical DevOps-enabling technology that allows teams to more rapidly access development and test infrastructure, to more quickly and consistently deploy application code into production, and to support ongoing scaling of infrastructure resources to meet the variable needs of code updates and enhancements," said Mary Johnston Turner, research vice president, IDC Enterprise System Management Software.
IDC Innovators: DevOps Infrastructure Automation, 2017 profiles DevOps vendors within the area of infrastructure automation with an innovative technology or a groundbreaking new business model or both. The IDC Innovators research document examines DevOps infrastructure automation companies with revenue of less than $100 million with a product, service, or business model with a specific use case.
