Incap Estonia acquired educational kits for Lümanda School to support the development of future engineers. The new teaching tools are intended to enhance the teaching of natural sciences, especially physics.
Inspiring future engineers and contributing to the local education system are priorities for Incap. In addressing the shortage of engineers, a serious challenge for the region’s business and overall economic development, Incap has decided to support the teaching of natural sciences. “Our first collaboration with Lümanda School students and their teacher, Janno Tuulik, took place in 2021 when they visited our Kuressaare factory. Acquiring educational tools is a natural continuation, as we are convinced that Janno Tuulik’s dedication and contribution to technical education on Saaremaa will help nurture new talents who will drive Saaremaa’s economy forward and increase prosperity in the region,” said Margus Jakobson, CEO of Incap Estonia.
Thanks to Incap’s support, Lümanda School, with a focus on natural sciences, received Praktikal‘s electrical and thermal education experiment kits, making learning more lifelike and exciting.
As a physics teacher, Janno Tuulik has previously used Praktikal’s educational tools, and the experience has been very positive. “The teaching tools are simple and practical. Students can assemble all the experimental tools themselves and often discover something completely new and interesting,” Tuulik said, emphasising that the use of such kits in schools are essential for popularising engineering sciences among young people.
Under Janno Tuulik’s guidance, Lümanda students have showcased their skills in various robotics competitions. They have achieved notable positions in Robotex LEGO sumo and drone races, demonstrating significant technical aptitude and enthusiasm. Incap Estonia’s factory team commends Tuulik for promoting technical education among the youth. “Thanks to Janno Tuulik, Saaremaa’s youth will accomplish many great things in the future. We invite other Saaremaa companies and local authorities to support similar initiatives,” added Jakobson.
The educational tools were handed over by Lümanda School alumna and Incap Estonia Accountant Egle Tamm, Process Manager Kaarli Haandi, and Business Development Manager Tiit Priske.

Root-cause Analysis and Problem-solving
11/01/2024 | Happy Holden, I-Connect007An essential skill for any process engineer in printed circuit fabrication is the ability to conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) and problem-solving. These are related to TQC and Six Sigma applications and are essential for customer support and continued profitability. All engineers will encounter these methods sooner or later, but it will likely be sooner if you are in product or process engineering in manufacturing.

Beyond Design: Integrated Circuit to PCB Integration
09/11/2024 | Barry Olney -- Column: Beyond DesignTechnologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous cars, smartphones, and wearable devices are significantly transforming the semiconductor industry. The miniaturization trend drives the IC footprint to an even smaller profile, requiring tighter margins. From the PCB designer’s perspective, smaller form factors are achievable, making devices more compact and lightweight. But double-sided SMT placement, reduced routing channels, and high-speed constraints create multiple challenges for designers. However, there are some advantages to miniaturization: shorter interconnects between the IC and the PCB reduce signal loss and electromagnetic interference. High-speed digital signals in the GHz range benefit from reduced parasitics.
