Delving Into Special Sessions at IPC APEX EXPO 2024
May 28, 2024 | Happy Holden, I-Connect007Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Once again, we were back at IPC APEX EXPO for another show and conference, and back to gathering in the Anaheim Convention Center. With Disneyland just across the street, there were tourists everywhere.
This APEX EXPO was bigger than ever, with more activities, Professional Development Courses, standards committee meetings, and the 16th Electronic Circuits World Convention. I really enjoyed walking around and seeing everything the show had to offer.
After an excellent keynote on Tuesday by Paul Bailey titled “The Art of the Impossible,” the show opened, and a large crowd surged in. I spent the day walking the aisles and looking at all the technologies. One factor that kept recurring was the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a catchphrase. It was difficult to really understand what part of AI was being employed, but it was the use of rule-based learning of errors that could then be used to correct the root causes. Many of the Real Time With… interviews conducted in the I-Connect007 booth discussed the prevalence of AI.
One of the highlights for me was the Taiwan High-Tech Forum on Wednesday, presented by the Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (TPCA). TSMC provided opening remarks about the super-IC fabrication for the world. They showed a very slick video about their processes and packaging. Other Taiwan luminaries, including the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), gave an overview of its research for IC packaging and critical materials. This was followed by key Taiwan packaging substrate suppliers like Unimicron and Kinsus Interconnect Technology Corp., where leaders reviewed their technologies, capabilities, and materials. As the day went on, it seemed that the presentations were increasingly about marketing rather than technical presentations, as very few facts and data were presented; it was more about products and capabilities.

Elementary, Mr. Watson: APEX EXPO—The Ghosts Past, Present, and Future
03/05/2026 | John Watson -- Column: Elementary, Mr. WatsonOn the eve of APEX EXPO 2026, the Anaheim Convention Center in California rests in a rare and fragile quiet. The lights are dimmed, the escalators are still, and the long corridors echo with only the distant sounds of crews finishing their work. In the corner of a long hallway, an engineer sits alone, wondering why he’s even there. “I have too much work to get done,” he thinks, as he looks down at the large stack of active projects—schematics marked with revisions and standards, and notebooks filled with hurried notes and half-finished thoughts—spread across his lap and at his feet.

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
02/27/2026 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007 MagazineIt’s time for my five must-reads featured this past week. The global economy is still reeling from last Friday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling that most tariffs imposed under IEEPA by President Trump are unconstitutional. In other news, with APEX EXPO just two weeks away, we're featuring the first three Real Time with... pre-show sponsor interviews: Remtec, Burkle North America, and KYZEN. These are insightful and forward-thinking interviews about what you can expect to see at the show this year. Please check them out!
DesignCon 2026: From Copper to Quantum to Agentic AI
02/26/2026 | Kelly Dack, I-Connect007Greetings from “balmy” Santa Clara, where DesignCon 2026 is officially underway. The conference began in 1995 as Design SuperCon, and now in its 31st year, remains Silicon Valley’s annual summit for signal and power integrity pros. As I walked into the hotel next to the Santa Clara Convention Center, I could sense echoes of the thousands of football fans who packed the area just weeks ago for the Super Bowl. For me, though, DesignCon is the big game, where our industry’s MVPs take the field to show how fast the technology playbook is evolving.
After IEEPA: What Electronics Companies Should Know About Tariff Refund Strategies and Section 122
02/26/2026 | I-Connect007 Editorial TeamThe U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision striking down tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) opens the door to potential refunds for electronics companies and signals a rapid pivot to alternative trade statutes, setting the stage for a volatile 150-day period that could significantly affect global electronics supply chains. Trade and electronics industry leaders gathered for a webinar hosted by the Global Electronics Association on Feb. 24 to learn more about the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision.
