Current IssueInner Layer Precision & Yields
In this issue, we examine the critical nature of building precisions into your inner layers and assessing their pass/fail status as early as possible. Whether it’s using automation to cut down on handling issues, identifying defects earlier, or replacing an old line...
Engineering Economics
The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

EMD Electronics Women’s Success Network Leaders Honored With 2024 SEMI Foundation Excellence In Achievement Award
July 12, 2024 | SEMIEstimated reading time: 1 minute
SEMI, the industry association representing the global electronics design and manufacturing supply chain, and the SEMI Foundation, which drives the SEMI workforce development program, announced that leaders from the Women’s Success Network (WSN) of EMD Electronics received the 2024 SEMI Foundation Excellence in Achievement Award. The SEMI Foundation selected the WSN leaders for their work in developing a grassroots initiative to bridge the gender equality gap within EMD Electronics and support women in the semiconductor industry.
Shari Liss, Executive Director of the SEMI Foundation, presented the award to EMD Electronics WSN leaders at SEMICON West 2024 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The award was accepted by Samira Bagheri, Ph.D., Senior Operations Manager; Francesca Domingo, Head of University Relations & Talent Strategy; Shannon Kellso, Supply Chain Planning Director; and Joy Racowski, Ph.D., Process and Product Development Engineer. The SEMI Foundation Excellence in Achievement Award recognizes those within the global microelectronics sector who have made significant contributions to advance workforce development initiatives and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“A women's network setting plays a crucial role in bridging the gender gap by providing support, mentorship, and opportunities for professional development; it fosters a sense of community, empowers women, and contributes to a more inclusive workplace, ultimately enhancing diversity and innovation,” said Racowski, “The semiconductor industry should work collectively to provide insights and practical advice on how grassroots employee resource groups can be established and nurtured to effectively bridge the gender gap in the semiconductor industry.”
“Throughout their careers, these remarkable women have exemplified the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), passionately advocating for women and other underrepresented groups in both their personal and professional lives,” said Liss. “We are proud to honor Joy, Francesca, Shannon, and Samira with the SEMI Foundation Excellence in Achievement Award and look forward to collaborating with them to foster greater inclusion and equity in the semiconductor industry workforce.”
