Current IssueThe Hole Truth: Via Integrity in an HDI World
From the drilled hole to registration across multiple sequential lamination cycles, to the quality of your copper plating, via reliability in an HDI world is becoming an ever-greater challenge. This month we look at “The Hole Truth,” from creating the “perfect” via to how you can assure via quality and reliability, the first time, every time.
In Pursuit of Perfection: Defect Reduction
For bare PCB board fabrication, defect reduction is a critical aspect of a company's bottom line profitability. In this issue, we examine how imaging, etching, and plating processes can provide information and insight into reducing defects and increasing yields.
Voices of the Industry
We take the pulse of the PCB industry by sharing insights from leading fabricators and suppliers in this month's issue. We've gathered their thoughts on the new U.S. administration, spending, the war in Ukraine, and their most pressing needs. It’s an eye-opening and enlightening look behind the curtain.

Matrix Announces the Opening of their Equipment Demonstration Room in Mississauga, Ontario
August 16, 2024 | Matrix ElectronicsEstimated reading time: 1 minute
In the past year Matrix installed a complete equipment process line for dry film imaging at the Matrix Electronics head office in Mississauga, Ontario. Equipment is installed in a newly refurbished area complete with yellow lighting to support dry film lamination and includes the following equipment:
- Advanced Engineering SAP 650 Loader
- Matrix EC-24 Non-Contact Electrostatic Cleaner
- Latest model of the Hakuto 6630NP dry film laminator
- Advanced Engineering CSD – 30 stage buffer
- Advanced Engineering PMA101-CPB mylar Peeler
- Advanced Engineering SRV652 Unloader
- Advanced Engineer conveyors and MUX panel turn multiplexor
Customers can experience the cleaning, lamination, buffering, mylar peeling and unloading of their own test panels automatically in one process line.
“Process automation is a hot topic today among the PCB fabs in North America. Everyone wants this capability but integrating this process into existing facilities is challenging. This demonstration room provides our customers with the opportunity to see, touch and evaluate this equipment before committing to a purchase, providing additional confidence in the validation of their investment. This is especially true for new equipment like the Advanced Engineering PMA101-CPB Mylar Peeler. We look forward to hosting our customers with this new capability,” remarked Bob Berg, VP of Business Development.
Contact your local Matrix Account Manager to arrange a tour or demonstration.

Elementary Mr. Watson: Retro Routers vs. Modern Boards—The Silent Struggle on Your Screen
06/26/2025 | John Watson -- Column: Elementary, Mr. WatsonThere's a story about a young woman preparing a holiday ham. Before putting it in the pan, she cuts off the ends. When asked why, she shrugs and says, "That's how my mom always did it." She asks her mother, who gives the same answer. Eventually, the question reaches Grandma, who laughs and says, "Oh, I only cut the ends off because my pan was too small." This story is a powerful analogy for how many PCB designers approach routing today.

Defining the Ideal PCB Design Data Output
05/27/2025 | Stephen V. Chavez, Siemens EDAAt the heart of delivering successful, manufacturable printed circuit boards lies a vital question: What should your design data output package include to best support manufacturing? The answer: It depends. There are many factors to consider regarding the specific category you’re designing for—such as mil/aero, space, medical, and commercial. Other factors that need to be considered are requirements and engineering intent.
