AT&S Invests in Future Workforce Through Apprenticeship Program
January 30, 2025 | AT&SEstimated reading time: 1 minute

Apprenticeship Day on January 22 at AT&S in Leoben was a complete success. In the morning, school classes with a total of 140 pupils and specialist teachers visited the Styrian microelectronics specialist’s company headquarters. At the public event in the afternoon, all other interested parties were given the most important information – more than 60 young people and their parents and families took advantage of this opportunity.
The complex world of high-quality IC substrates and printed circuit boards, which have essential functions in smartphones, laptops, drones and smartwatches, among other things, was explained in simple language by AT&S experts: in “Erlebniswelt”, during lectures, at the stations of the individual apprenticeships and during line tours through production – high-tech up close. The award-winning copper recycling plant was also visited, as waste water technology will be a new and highly interesting apprenticeship at AT&S from September.
Eduard Lackner, HR Manager Austria: “We have a wide range of apprenticeships and want to use apprenticeship training to ensure that we have the best-trained specialists after the apprenticeship to support us in our further development as a company.”
Applications are now open in the career portal on the AT&S website www.ats.net. There you will find detailed descriptions of the apprenticeships currently being sought, including the apprenticeship with Matura model.
AT&S supports the international school in Leoben
Speaking of schools: AT&S is a supporter of the international school in Leoben (“Leoben Bilingual Schooling”). This English-language education program is implemented at the Pestalozzi elementary school and the Europagymnasium and offers language support at native speaker level from the 1st grade to the Matura. The registration phase will begin in February 2025 and AT&S is hoping for many registrations in order to make the Leoben region fit for the challenges of the future.

Elementary Mr. Watson: Routing Hunger Games—May the Traces Be Ever in Your Favor
08/26/2025 | John Watson -- Column: Elementary, Mr. WatsonI’d like to share a harsh truth, and I say this as a friend: PCB designers are often their own worst enemy. It’s rarely the complexity of the circuit, the last-minute changes from mechanical, the limited enclosure space, or the ever-expanding list of design rules that send projects to the dust heap of failed boards. More often, it's our own decisions, made too quickly and narrowly, and with too little foresight, that sabotage an otherwise good design.

It’s Only Common Sense: Stop Chasing New Customers and Start Keeping the Ones You Have
08/11/2025 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: It's Only Common SenseCustomer retention is not glamorous. It doesn’t have a flashy ad campaign, it’s not going viral on social media, and nobody’s handing out “Best in Retention” awards at trade shows. However, if you’re running a proper business, not a popularity contest, then customer retention is where you make your money. However, too many companies treat customer retention as an afterthought.
