Eco-Scouts Initiative: Rehm Apprentice Team Receives Jury Award
July 4, 2025 | Rehm Thermal SystemsEstimated reading time: 1 minute
At the end of May, as part of this year’s ECO-Scouts Initiative, 14 interdisciplinary apprentice teams from various companies presented their project results to a panel of experts. “Through their projects, the apprentices contribute fresh ideas and new perspectives to their companies, expand their professional knowledge, and develop important competencies,” emphasized the Ulm Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK Ulm) during this year’s closing event. The apprentice team from Rehm Thermal Systems GmbH presented their innovative project “Algae Photobioreactor” and was awarded the Jury Prize.
The interdisciplinary teams from the participating companies began their work more than six months ago with the goal of developing meaningful solutions related to climate protection and sustainability. During the course of the project, the apprentices attended three different seminars focused on climate protection and sustainability. Key themes - such as energy, biodiversity and nutrition, consumption, and mobility -were to be integrated into the teams’ project goals. To further strengthen the apprentices’ skills, they also received practical training in communication and project management.
The Rehm apprentices independently planned and constructed an algae photobioreactor. Following the innovative implementation and manufacturing using 3D-printed components, the team conducted a practical algae cultivation test, documented the results, analyzed the data, and prepared a presentation for the jury. Winning the competition and being awarded first prize underscores not only the successful development of the team’s project and collaboration skills, but also the creativity and forward-thinking mindset of the Rehm apprentices.
The Rehm award-winning team – At the final event of the Eco-Scouts Initiative, 50 apprentices from 14 companies presented their projects on climate protection and sustainability.
