PC GPU Shipments Up 8.4% in 2Q25 on Pre-Tariff Demand
September 2, 2025 | Jon Peddie ResearchEstimated reading time: 1 minute

Jon Peddie Research reports the growth of the global PC-based graphics processor unit (GPU) market reached 74.7 million units in Q2'25, and PC CPU shipments increased to 66.9 million units.
Overall, GPUs will have a compound annual growth rate of -2.9% from 2025 to 2028 and reach an installed base of 2,994 million units at the end of the forecast period. Over the next five years, the penetration of discrete GPUs (dGPU) in the PC will be 23%.
Year-to-year total GPU shipments, including all platforms and all types of GPUs, increased 4.9%, desktop graphics increased by 11.0%, and notebooks increased by 2.5%.
As indicated in the following chart, AMD's overall GPU market share decreased by -2.4% from last quarter, Intel's market share decreased by 1.9%, and Nvidia's market share increased by 4.3%.
Overall, CPU unit shipments increased 8% from last quarter; AMD’s increased 27%, and Intel’s increased 2%.
The GPU's overall attach rate (which includes integrated and discrete GPUs, desktops, notebooks, and workstations) in PCs for the quarter increased to 112%, up 0.5% from the last quarter.
The overall PC CPU market increased 12.9% year to year and increased 7.9% quarter to quarter.
The second quarter is traditionally down from the previous quarter. This quarter's GPU shipments were up from the 10-year average of 5.2%.
“The upheaval and uncertainty over tariffs have not abated, making planning difficult or impossible for PC suppliers. Supply chains are being reconfigured every week, trying to offset the impact of the threats and a few cases of actual tariffs,” said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research. “Consumers are equally confused and worried, which will likely result in a pullback, further exacerbating the market. We don’t see how the market can do anything but decline in such uncertain times.”
