Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.

Incap Slovakia Advancing Sustainability in Supply Chain and Production
November 7, 2025 | IncapEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
While addressing material impacts and risks in our sustainability topics, Incap Slovakia has been implementing several sustainability initiatives to reduce emissions, optimise resources, and improve efficiency in both logistics and production.
Implementing sustainability solutions to address material topics for Incap as well as to reach our sustainability targets, is challenging but crucial for all our teams at Incap. Here are some examples of implemented activities that purchasing manager Ján Moravčík and quality manager Maria Papanova from Incap Slovakia have brought out based on their factory.
DHL GoGreen Plus solution
Since 2024, Incap Slovakia has been using DHL’s GoGreen Plus programme, which enables shipments with greener fuel. The company pays a surcharge for recycled fuel in its deliveries and receives an annual GoGreen certificate, with the option of requesting detailed emission reports. In 2024, this resulted in a 9.44% reduction in well-to-wheel emissions, saving 5.02 tonnes of CO₂e. ‘Well-to-wheel’ refers to the total emissions generated across the full fuel lifecycle, from production to final use in transport.
Consolidated shipping
To cut down on transport and waste, Incap Slovakia consolidates shipments whenever possible. Customer exports are grouped and shipped at the end of the month, while deliveries from suppliers such as Avnet are now scheduled twice a week instead of daily. This approach not only reduces environmental impact but also improves efficiency and strengthens the company’s negotiation position with suppliers.
Energy optimisation in production
The company is also introducing smarter energy management in its facilities. Radiator control heads have been ordered and will soon be installed in meeting rooms and staff areas. The system will allow temperature changes only by authorised personnel and will be scheduled according to room usage, preventing unnecessary heating.
Leasing machinery
Leasing machinery instead of purchasing outright is another sustainability measure for Incap Slovakia, while a similar setup is also used by some of our other factories. This setup allows them to stay competitive while providing flexibility in production and replacement of the machinery based on project needs. If the leased equipment proves suitable for production, Incap Slovakia can decide to purchase it after the leasing period. Otherwise, the machine can be returned to the supplier under agreed terms, reducing the risk of resource waste.
Sharing materials between units
The company has tested sharing surplus materials internally through CalcuQuote. The concept involves each site regularly entering stock data so that other units can use the materials in the RFQ phase instead of sourcing new ones. This initiative is linked to future plans for a more centralised and automated system, which will require standardised and cleaned-up material part numbers.
Sustainability and efficiency are therefore becoming everyday realities at Incap Slovakia, thanks to the team’s commitment to continuous improvement and smart, forward-thinking solutions. Best of luck to the team with the next sustainability initiatives!
