Memorial Day is, in my opinion, one of the most meaningful holidays observed in the United States. The holiday began as “Decoration Day,” when communities gathered to place flowers on the graves of fallen Civil War soldiers. Over time, the observance evolved into a national day of remembrance honoring all U.S. military personnel who gave their lives in service to the country. Today, Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May and is recognized as a federal holiday nationwide.
For many Americans, Memorial Day carries both historical and cultural importance. Communities mark the occasion with ceremonies, parades, visits to memorials and cemeteries, and moments of national remembrance. While the holiday also signals the unofficial beginning of the summer season, its deeper purpose remains rooted in honoring those who served and sacrificed.
Because Memorial Day is a nationally recognized public holiday, the I-Connect007 offices will be closed today, as are most U.S. government offices, schools, banks, and many businesses.
