Omega EMS, a U.S.-based electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, has completed a major solar installation at its San Jose, California, manufacturing facility, marking another investment in strengthening the efficiency, resilience, and long-term competitiveness of its U.S. manufacturing operations.
The approximately 650-kW DC solar energy system is expected to generate approximately 781,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity during its first year of operation—offsetting roughly 60% of the facility's annual electricity requirements, with project estimates indicating an actual offset of approximately 63%.
The investment supports Omega EMS's ongoing strategy to modernize its manufacturing infrastructure, reduce operating costs, improve energy efficiency, and increase the facility's energy independence.
"Electricity is one of the largest operating expenses in manufacturing, particularly here in California," said Chris Alessio, President and CEO of Omega EMS. " "Generating a significant portion of our power on-site allows us to better control energy costs while increasing the efficiency of our operations. Investments like this strengthen our ability to remain competitive and continue providing high-value manufacturing solutions for our customers."
Omega EMS's San Jose facility provides advanced electronics manufacturing services, including printed circuit board assembly, system integration, engineering support, and test services for customers across a wide range of technology markets. The facility consumes approximately 1.25 million kWh of electricity annually, making the new solar installation a significant contributor to its overall energy needs.
The solar project represents another milestone in Omega EMS's continued investment in its U.S. manufacturing capabilities. Along with ongoing investments in equipment, technology, and workforce development, the initiative strengthens the company's long-term commitment to delivering high-quality domestic manufacturing services.
