Competition Heats Up in the Global Optical Sensors Market
October 19, 2015 | PRNewswireEstimated reading time: 3 minutes
Mordor Intelligence is pleased to announce the publication of the report on Global Optical Sensors Market on October 19, 2015. This report covers the present scenario and the growth prospects of the Global Optical Sensors Market for 2015-2020. In addition, it provides detailed country-wise analysis for Ambient Light Sensors market with Premium Insights.
An optical sensor refers to an aid that helps in the conversion of data/readings of an integrated measuring device to display. These sensors are generally a part of larger system that constitutes a sensor, measuring device and a source of light. Optical sensors has gained significant amount in R&D considering the advantages they provide as compared to traditional sensors.
The market for Global Optical Sensors was valued at US$14.49 billion in 2014 and is expected to reach at US$20.94 billion by 2020, growing at a CAGR of 7.65 percent.
The market dynamics for optical sensors is changing with more companies focusing on technology and innovation in the domain of pixel resolution, pixel count, pixel size for improving the quality of the images and data. The introduction of miniaturized versions, which are easy to use and carry, offer various photoelectric capabilities for more convincing and precise data. The smartphone advancement is expected to spur the need for power saving technology for better battery life, which is expected to drive the demand for optical sensors during the forecast period.
Europe is expected to have highest penetration rate of smartphone, followed by the North American region. This factor is expected to drive the market for optical sensors over the next few years in the developing economies, while slower growth will be observed across African region on account of low LTE deployments.
The market has been divided under Fibre Optic Sensors, Image Sensors, Position Sensors, Ambient Light Sensors, Infrared sensors as main categories. Ambient Light Sensors are further bifurcated into four major technical components such as Cadmium Sulphide (CdS), Silicon (Si), InGaAs and Extended InGaAs.
Major players in the market are Mouser Electronics, SICK AG, Rockwell Automation, Honeywell, Eaton, Turck, Bosch, Atmel, ST Microelectronics, Hitachi, OmniVision, among others.
The growth rate of Cadmium Sulphide Ambient Light Sensors market would not be significant because of certain challenges such as disposability issues and ROHS compliance in the European Region. We believe that efficient inspection process and the efficiency to remodel shipping and printing abilities holds the key for a manufacturer and distributor in this market. Moreover, ROHS compliance is estimated to affect the market growth rate, which includes home appliances and toys. However, compared to EU, Chinese RoHS compliance makes everyone in the supply chain responsible for non-compliance, while only manufacturers, importers and some retailers are subject to penalty in the EU version.
Optical sensor in Healthcare: The market is experiencing high growth in the domain of 3D shape sensing. This application is however relatively new. The age-old application of these optical sensors for in vivo processes in the healthcare sector, have been replaced by placing or inserting these devices in places of the human body which cannot be easily accessed.
The Asia-Pacific holds the major share for optical sensor penetration due to increase in the growth of the sectors such as manufacturing, retail and automation. It is estimated that emerging economies are expected to be the major market for optical sensors in the near future.
The study elucidates the situation of sensors by various types and shows application of sensors in various markets like Commercial, Consumer Electronics, Medical (Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Dermatology, Neurology, among others), Automotive, Industrial, Aerospace and Defence, and Optocouplers (4-pin Optocouplers, 6 Pin Optocouplers, High Speed Optocouplers, IGBT Gate Driver Optocouplers, and Isolation Amplifier Optocouplers) among others, along with market metrics. The market is divided by the various types of optical sensors and the different technologies being used.

A Less Expensive Defense and Aerospace PCB Fab Startup
08/20/2024 | Alex Stepinski, Stepinski GroupEditor’s note: Investing in a new printed circuit board fabrication startup is not for the faint of heart or the light of wallet. Standing up a new “high-tech” PCB fab facility capable of becoming qualified for aerospace and defense work typically takes a minimum investment of $50 million. However, Alex Stepinski says entering the defense and aerospace markets with a new PCB fabrication start-up facility far under this prohibitive cost benchmark is possible when good partnerships, innovation, and sound engineering design enter from the beginning. In this article, Alex Stepinski outlines just how this can be achieved.
