Notebook ODMs Eye Medical Electronics Device Opportunity

Taiwan-based ODMs have been partnering with medical product players to push into the medical electronics device market, according to a Digitimes report. For one, Compal Electronics recently cooperated with Portugal-based Alert Life Science to sell its products in Taiwan, and has partnered with medical product maker Apexcare to develop a smart medical care cart.
Meanwhile, Wistron recently established a subsidiary for biotechnology, which will cooperate with medical product players to establish a platform. The company has also cooperated with the government of Chongqing, China to establish a joint venture to help non-China medical product players obtain local certification. Digitimes added that Wistron has also invested in Maya International Company, which develops medical equipment with integrated medical records.
Finally, Quanta has partnered with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to develop the QOCA platform, which has already been adopted by a few hospitals in Taiwan.
