Alpha's Tim Luke to Present on Reliability at ZESTRON Soldering Workshops in Canada
July 21, 2016 | Alpha Assembly SolutionsEstimated reading time: 3 minutes

Alpha Assembly Solutions, the world leader in the production of electronic soldering and bonding materials, will be participating in the ZESTRON Academy Workshops titled Soldering, Cleaning and Coating taking place in late September in Toronto (September 20th) and Montreal (September 22nd).
Tim Luke of Alpha will be presenting at both workshops on the topic of “Building Reliability In: To Clean or Not to Clean”. The seminar will highlight how chemistry choices play an important role in the functionality and long-term reliability of today’s electronics.
“The move to Pb-free soldering together with increasingly complex electronics has put increased pressure on making the right decisions when it comes to the fluxes and processes used in electronics assembly”, said Tim Luke, Regional Sales Manager for Alpha. “An understanding of Electrochemical Reliability and whether or not to clean or not clean your assemblies for reliability assurance is important and can help customers gain efficiencies without sacrificing quality.”
Participation in the Soldering, Cleaning and Coating Workshops is free. For more information, visit www.zestron.com or send an inquiry to academy@zestronusa.com.

Fresh PCB Concepts: Assembly Challenges with Micro Components and Standard Solder Mask Practices
06/26/2025 | Team NCAB -- Column: Fresh PCB ConceptsMicro components have redefined what is possible in PCB design. With package sizes like 01005 and 0201 becoming more common in high-density layouts, designers are now expected to pack more performance into smaller spaces than ever before. While these advancements support miniaturization and functionality, they introduce new assembly challenges, particularly with traditional solder mask and legend application processes.
Knocking Down the Bone Pile: Tin Whisker Mitigation in Aerospace Applications, Part 3
06/25/2025 | Nash Bell -- Column: Knocking Down the Bone PileTin whiskers are slender, hair-like metallic growths that can develop on the surface of tin-plated electronic components. Typically measuring a few micrometers in diameter and growing several millimeters in length, they form through an electrochemical process influenced by environmental factors such as temperature variations, mechanical or compressive stress, and the aging of solder alloys.
