Roscan Electronics Strengthens Production Capabilities

EMS firm Roscan Electronics is strengthening its manufacturing capability with the recent addition of two new pick-and-place machines and two further AOI machines.
“We have been planning for a huge increase in PCBA production for some time now and finally, this year, all the pieces of the jigsaw came together,” says Nathan Martyn, managing director of Roscan Electronics. “It began with investment in product quality by introducing two more AOI machines to complement our existing equipment, increasing inspection capacity enormously. Then, during the summer, we took delivery of two new pick-and-place machines. We also invested heavily in feeders to ensure we can machine place even the most challenging parts. Since the extra feeders arrived, the majority of jobs are now 100% machine populated. Previously, there would always be a few hand fits, slowing down production and wasting valuable resources.”
According to Lee Andrews, financial director, as the new equipment has come on-line, the company’s output has increased, and consequently revenue has jumped by about 35%. “It’s continuing to climb further as we improve the processes and workflows,” he says. “And we’re not finished yet! During the autumn we expanded our mezzanine floor space to accommodate all the extra stock.” The phase two of the mez expansion was completed after the Christmas break.
“Just this week we have commissioned a new air compressor and air ring main” says Cliff Withers, projects director. “We’ve also built a new meeting room for customer visits and presentations, along with improved staff facilities. We’ve completely re-laid out the factory, producing an enhanced work-flow, more space and a much more pleasant working environment. It’s barely recognizable compared to this time last year.”
What’s next at the company? Nathan says, “I think we just need to take a deep breath and concentrate on using all this new equipment to its optimum capability and capacity. We have further plans for 2018, but I want the dust to settle a little. It’s been an enormous year for us. It’s been fantastic, but all this work taking place does create some disruption. When we come back in the New Year, I want to continue improving our production efficiency on both PCBA and cable harness manufacturing. Early in 2018, we’re transitioning to ISO 9001:2015, having completely revamped our Quality Management System. We’re committed to providing the best possible quality of service and product this industry has to offer.”
