A Girl Scout wanted to sell more cookies than any of her troop and was smart enough to know she couldn’t do it by going door to door. She knew other Girl Scouts planted themselves in front of grocery stores, and they did well. The previous year she had done the same thing but discovered a problem: People didn’t want to buy cookies on the way into the store, and on their way out, there was a chance they’d already bought some from the wide variety available. So, she put on her thinking cap and set herself up in front of the newly opened marijuana store, and yes, she sold more cookies than anyone else.

Continuing my series on people who influenced the world, I want to talk about Steve Jobs. We all know who he is and how he impacted the world—making a dent in the universe, as he was fond of saying. Those who worked with Jobs will admit that he was not an easy guy to deal with. At times, he was not very nice. Maybe that’s how it must be if your goal is making a dent in the universe. Maybe he didn’t have time to dawdle. Maybe he even had a premonition that his life would be cut short at only age 57. But whatever the reason, he crammed as much life and produced as many life-changing products in the mere 39 years of his career.
