Waygate’s Phoenix Speed|scan HD Sets Standard for Production Line Tomography Systems
October 29, 2020 | Waygate TechnologiesEstimated reading time: 2 minutes

Waygate Technologies (formerly GE Inspection Technologies), a world leader in industrial inspection solutions, is further expanding its Computed Tomography (CT) product portfolio with the new Phoenix Speed|scan HD. The high-performance microCT system was developed for production environments with high throughput, and can be used in a variety of industries.
The new system is particularly suitable for increasing inspection requirements, e.g. in the electronics and automotive industries, in medical technology and battery and additive manufacturing. Its high degree of automation enables the inspection of large product quantities as well as system utilization 24 hours a day. Additionally, inspection efficiency is further increased by Waygate Technologies’ artificial intelligence based automated defect recognition (ADR). As a result of these operating efficiencies, costs for quality control are reduced.
Dr. Oliver Brunke, Application and Engineering Leader for industrial CT systems at Waygate Technologies, explains: “We have been the technology leader in high-speed CT inspection for many years, especially in automotive and aerospace applications. With higher-resolution images at the same high-speed throughput, Phoenix Speed|scan HD now expands the range of applications and sets new standards in multiple industries. Thanks to our long-standing relationships with users in all kinds of industries and their feedback, the system offers a wide range of customization options. With its high degree of automation, our new system allows a noticeable increase in production efficiency.”
Designed for a variety of industries and different applications
Monitoring and optimizing the production process are the main fields of application for the Phoenix Speed|scan HD. Waygate Technologies' engineers developed the new system for use in e.g. the consumer electronics industry. Here, alongside fault detection, battery and accumulator safety and longevity play an important role.
Due to the high detail detectability of up to 20 micrometers, Speed|scan HD can guarantee high-quality inspection while maintaining high efficiency; particularly in the production of batteries and accumulators. In addition to this, the system delivers error analyses, quantitative 3D porosity analyses, material structure analyses, and assembly checks or nominal/actual comparisons based on CAD data in the automotive, aviation and medical technology industries.
“Scan around the clock”: Automated InlineCT for continuous utilization
Speed|scan HD is systematically designed for integrated use as part of the production line with an up to 100% automated inspection process. The dual manipulator and double X-ray safety gate ensure that scanning can take place 24/7.
Powerful metrology system
Waygate Technologies' new high-performance CT system can also be used for metrology (the precision measurement of the geometry and dimensions of a part or product). This makes Phoenix Speed|scan HD a valuable asset for the development and design process. Plastics moulding or industrial 3D printing of geometrically highly complex components are other promising usage areas for the newest addition in Waygate Technologies’ product portfolio.
