Metris Acquires X-Tek
February 5, 2008 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
LEUVEN, Belgium Metris completed its stock-based acquisition of X-Tek Group, begun in 2007, with 100% stock purchase. The company notes that X-Tek's microfocus and computerized tomography (CT) X-ray system lines fit its technology portfolio.
Metris designs, develops, and markets a range of 3D hardware and software metrology inspection systems for design and manufacturing industries. It covers the range of measurement volumes in fixed and portable configurations and with optical and touch sensors.
The acquisition will enable Metris to expand X-Tek's CT capabilities into various applications within the metrology industry. Metris headquarters are in Leuven, Belgium, with additional production and development centers in the U.K., Italy, U.S., China, India, and Bulgaria. X-Tek brings the company about 75 employees, with headquarters in Hertfordshire, U.K., and customer support facilities in San Jose, Calif.; Boston; China; and Malaysia.
The X-ray and industrial CT scanning technology offerings from X-Tek will help extend Metris' measurement capabilities, from laser scanner surface measurements to inspection of complex internal structures. Metris will continue to serve existing X-Tek customers with equipment for 3D inspection of PCBs, consumer electronics housings, and industrial components. It also plans to direct X-Tek technology to new applications such as engine and turbine blade inspection, added Bart Van Coppenolle, president and CEO, Metris.
