Current IssueIn Pursuit of Perfection: Defect Reduction
For bare PCB board fabrication, defect reduction is a critical aspect of a company's bottom line profitability. In this issue, we examine how imaging, etching, and plating processes can provide information and insight into reducing defects and increasing yields.
Voices of the Industry
We take the pulse of the PCB industry by sharing insights from leading fabricators and suppliers in this month's issue. We've gathered their thoughts on the new U.S. administration, spending, the war in Ukraine, and their most pressing needs. It’s an eye-opening and enlightening look behind the curtain.
The Essential Guide to Surface Finishes
We go back to basics this month with a recount of a little history, and look forward to addressing the many challenges that high density, high frequency, adhesion, SI, and corrosion concerns for harsh environments bring to the fore. We compare and contrast surface finishes by type and application, take a hard look at the many iterations of gold plating, and address palladium as a surface finish.

Graphic PLC Team Completes Business Improvement Apprenticeship
August 21, 2018 | Graphic PLCEstimated reading time: 1 minute
A team of 20 employees from Graphic’s Crediton site have successfully completed an Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance (Business Improvement Techniques). The 12-month program is a formally recognized NVQ apprenticeship qualification combining classroom based learning and simulations alongside practical improvement projects, providing an opportunity to apply the skills they have gained.
Delivered by Lean Education and Development Ltd (LEAD Limited), who specialize in training workforces in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, the course has covered a range of topics including the concepts of Lean, 8 Wastes, workplace organization (5S), root cause analysis and practical problem solving, which serve to help eliminate waste, reduce costs and boost productivity. The training has provided new skills to some employees, while offering a refresher and recognition to others who have gained previous experience.
“This has been a rewarding, and at times challenging, program which has aimed to help support the business’s ongoing focus on waste reduction by fostering a culture of continuous improvement. It has presented a unique opportunity for staff from different areas of the business to pool their experiences and expertise to help solve real business opportunities. The cohort have valued the chance to develop their team working and practical problem-solving skills, and they should be very proud of their achievement,” said Henry Norton, systems improvement manager.
“We have made a significant investment in developing the skills of our team through our Business Improvement Apprenticeship, which reflects how much we value our people and their contributions to the success of our business. It seems fitting that our cohort should receive their qualifications on Graphic’s 50th year of business, as we celebrate our successes and focus on our future. Going forward the next step will be to put the skills learned into practice to demonstrate sustained and tangible business benefits, while ensuring that we continue to offer exceptional service to our customers,” added Dave Pike, CEO.
