In this issue, we examine the critical nature of building precisions into your inner layers and assessing their pass/fail status as early as possible. Whether it’s using automation to cut down on handling issues, identifying defects earlier, or replacing an old line...
Engineering Economics
The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

S & P Flex Circuits Ltd Opts for Kaima Universal Fixture Tester From Gardien
March 30, 2022 | Gardien GroupEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Gardien Group is pleased to announce the installation of the Kaima bare circuit board fixture tester to S & P Flex in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.
Suresh Patel of S & P was quoted as saying, “The addition of the new tester enhances our capability for high volume order processing through Electrical Test. The new Fixture Tester allows S & P to maintain our tight turnaround deliverables to our customers. High volume orders are not optimum for Flying Probe applications and fixture test provides this link in the chain to maintain delivery even with high volume production. The large format allows us to test full production panels utilizing the machines double density grid configuration.”
Gardien's state-of-the-art KAIMA test system can easily be adapted to test multiple PCB configurations. Its standard double density grid (DD) can utilize standard 3.75” fixtures for high volume throughput for most densities of today’s manufacturing. The machine can be purchased with tighter densities such as Quad-Density or Octal-Density. These provide the ultimate solution to high-density, high-volume manufacturing. Adding the optional automated load/unload, pass/fail automation provides “Lights Out” solutions for around the clock operations.
