Global Strategic Business Report on PCBs
March 12, 2010 |Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
DUBLIN — Research and Markets released “A Global Strategic Business Report: PCBs,” analyzing the global market for printed circuit boards (PCBs) in US$ million. The major markets analyzed include the US, Canada, Japan, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and rest of world (ROW), with forecasts through 2015. It identifies major geographical and technological changes coming for the PCB fab industry.
Annual forecasts are provided for the period 2007 through 2015. Also, a six-year historic analysis is provided for these markets.
Region/country Players The United States 136 Canada 13Japan 14Europe 160France 10Germany 38The United Kingdom 47Italy 20Spain 4Rest of Europe 41Asia-Pacific (Excluding Japan)82Middle-East 3The report profiles 399 companies including Amphenol Corporation, Bulova Technologies Group, BT Manufacturing Company, LLC, CMK Corporation, DDi Corp, Coretec Inc, Firan Technology Group, Fujikura Ltd., Ibiden Co. Ltd., KB PCB Technology Co. Ltd, Kingboard Chemical Holdings Ltd., Merix Corporation, Nan Ya Printed Circuit Board Corporation, Nippon Mektron Ltd., Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. Ltd., Shinko Electric Industries Co. Ltd., Sanmina-SCI Corporation, TTM Technologies, Inc., Tripod Technology Corporation, and Unimicron Technology Corporation.
Research and Markets found that recession woes plague the PCB industry. Demand will be driven by auto electronics, and China and other southeast Asian countries will spur the industry’s growth (with mainly foreign investment). PCB manufacturers are increasing R&D spending, with shorter product lifecycles than in the past. PCB manufacturers also are now offering more end-to-end services, and the market should experience some consolidation. A huge gap between supply and demand will create opportunities for local PCB makers.
The analysts also identify technology trends. Multi-layer PCB laminates are expected to cost more, as a proliferation of communications & data networks will boost demand. High-density interconnect (HDI) technology will help eliminate backplanes. Rigid-flexible circuit boards will emerge as the leading PCB product. Lead-free PCBs will dominate in Asia.
The report covers rigid PCBs, single sided boards (SSBs) and double sided boards (DSBs), multi-layered boards (MLBs), integrated circuit (IC) substrates, flexible printed circuits (FPCs) (general and multi-layer), and rigid-flex PCBs. It reviews the PCB manufacturing process, including patterning (etch), silk screen printing, photoengraving, PCB milling, drilling, solder resist and solder plating, screen printing, and testing.
