Low-loss Bulk Cables
These low-loss bulk cables are designed to be used with Dynawave’s connectors and cable assemblies in RF and microwave applications. The bulk cable covers frequency ranges from DC up to 65.0 GHz. The products ensure electrically matched cables and connectors for demanding applications. Dynawave Inc., www.dynawavecable.com
Dual Protection Gaskets
The complex task of protecting sensitive electronics from adverse environmental conditions as well as unwanted electromagnetic interference can often be achieved by integrating a high-performance, conductive gasket into the enclosure package. Military-grade TechSIL 5000 Conductive Elastomers are a highly customizable gasketing solution that offers a shielding effectiveness of up to 110 dB across wide temperature variations and environmental conditions. The high-performance gasketing material is manufactured using proprietary formulations of both silicone and fluorosilicone rubber that is embedded with highly conductive fillers including silver-plated copper, silver-plated aluminum, silver-plated glass, and nickel-coated graphite. The company offers seven standard profiles of TechSIL 5000 gaskets as well as unlimited variations of extruded, molded, sheet stock, and die-cut finishes. Leader Tech, http://www.leadertechinc.com
Web-based AlCap Calculation Tool
An online version of the AlCap calculation tool is now available for selection of aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Because the tool can be used online without having to install software, the program and its underlying database are always up to date for design engineers. The calculation tool allows a design engineer to find a suitable capacitor of capacitor bank quickly according to entered requirements. The “tooltips” interactive aid supports the user at entry and enhances user friendliness. The calculator offers life expectancy calculations for individual types; refined search capability including parameters such as size limits or minimum required life expectancies; ability to define several load profiles during operations of the capacitor or capacitor bank; capability to save solutions for further processing in a subsequent session; ability to link product recommendations to a corresponding data sheets. Spot Cooling Technology
The NtelliJet series of low-profile coolers offers low-acoustic cooler technology using rapid-fire pulses of turbulent air (produced by an oscillating diaphragm working between 50 and 200hz ) to cool heatsinks and surrounding components. Benefits include high reliability and low profile height (max 15 mm) and an elimination of mechanical wear, dirt, and dust clogging. The new series is also immune to shock and vibration, and provides 100,000 hours of life at 60°C. The NtellJet suits focused thermal requirements, when cooling is needed for specific chips or areas of coverage. It is a flexible alternative for fans, across a large range of industrial applications and designs. JaroThermal, www.jarothermal.com
FPC-to-Board Connectors
A versatile, flexible printed circuit connector with minimal board height, the BM10 series of flex-to-PCB connectors is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free, available with stacking heights of 0.6 and 0.8 mm, and feature a 2.98-mm depth and 0.4-mm contact pitch. Features include reliable contact and retention force, a shock-absorbing configuration, and a self-alignment mechanism. The connectors suit use in a variety of applications including printers, industrial controls, medical and instrumentation equipment, as well as multimedia devices. The 40-position BM10 Series connectors feature an enhanced self-alignment mechanism via guidance ribs, with a self-alignment range of 0.3 mm. Metal fittings and a clipping contact design provide high PCB retention force and a reliable contact, while dimpled contacts result in robust mating in high-shock environments. The BM10 Series connectors also feature solder wicking prevention and contact protection against dust and other particles. Hirose Electric Co. Ltd., www.hiroseusa.com
EMI Multi-extrusion Elastomer Shielding Gasket
This family of multi-extrusion shielding gaskets, EMI Gemini, is a convergence of a thin, electrically conductive filler elastomer gasket layer and an inner, non-conductive silicone-coated core gasket. The conductive material portion of the gasket, usually loaded with silver, aluminum, nickel, or copper, is greatly reduced due to the substitution of the silicone core. The reduction of the conductive material lowers the total cost. Extruded in various sizes and profiles, the gasket retains strong EMI protection performance with a lower deflection while sealing against environmental influences such as moisture and dust. The gasket is manufactured in parallel using a ram and/or screw-type extrusion equipment. The extruder equipment incorporates a complex fixture that contains specific tools, depending on the profile. The EMI Gemini product line suits military, medical, and commercial applications requiring application-specific high shielding requirements. Laird Technologies Inc., http://www.lairdtech.com
Low-cost, Low-resistance Connector
The Silver Zebra elastomeric connector is a low-cost solution for most electronic packages that utilize a component-to-board or board-to-board design. The Zebra connector offers a current carrying capacity up to 0.700 amps per square 0.040″ and exhibits a contact resistance of less than 0.50 ?. The interconnect device creates redundant electrical contact through a design that incorporates 240 alternating layers of silver-filled conductive elastomer and non-conductive silicone material per inch of connector. This construction provides a centerline pitch between layers of 0.004″ (0.10 mm) and allows for 0.015″ (0.381 mm) pad spacing on the PCB. Silver Zebra is also available with an outer installation barrier to provide an added layer of environmental protection.
