Brushless Motors Improve Fume Extraction
June 7, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
GARDEN GROVE, Calif. OK International converted its BVX-200 fume extraction systems to brushless motor operation, and will offer an in-field upgrade to units in service to replace standard brushed motors. The upgrade is said to eliminate wear-related parts failure in the motor and increase system lifetime under normal operating conditions.
Brushless motors enable higher torque and power without limitations from brush ratings, according to the company. They also avoid dust production, which is caused by brush friction, and reduce electrical noise and RF interference. Design advances for motor controllers enabled the product-wide upgrade, said Graham Ross, Americas product manager, OK International. This upgrade will not affect part numbers and is available in all systems. The company plans to include an audible filter-condition indicator and remote on/off controller upgrades to fume extraction systems in July 2007.
