Capitol Hill Day Supports Electronics Manufacturing

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. — IPC–Association Connecting Electronics Industries' annual Capitol Hill Day will be held June 14, 2006, in Washington, D.C., allowing attendees to meet with members of Congress to discuss critical industry issues and promote growth and manufacturing.
Participants will push for increased federal funding for the Emerging/Critical Interconnection Technology program, a government research and development program targeting the PCB industry. Setting this year apart from past years, attendees also will inform Members of Congress on Linkages: Manufacturing Trends in Electronics Interconnection Technology, a National Academy of Sciences study that recommends the Department of Defense invest in the U.S. PCB industry for national security. They will also encourage support for the China Currency Act, HR 1498, which aims to end China's unfair trade advantage gained through currency policies.
The day's agenda includes:
"Lobbying 101 and the Current Political Landscape," by Randall Moorhead, vice president, Government Affairs, Philips Electronics North America Corporation; An issue briefing on the "Impact of China's Currency Policies on U.S. Manufacturers," by John Kania, IPC's director of Government Relations, and Bob Cassidy, director, International Trade and Services at Collier Shannon Scott.IPC's Capitol Hill Day provides a forum for attendees to voice the need for goverment assistance within the U.S. electronics manufacturing industry, particularly with approaching lead-free legislations.
