DuPont Plunkett Awards Recognize Innovation with Fluoropolymers
July 23, 2004 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Wilmington, Del. — Companies from around the world have won honors in the 2004 DuPont Plunkett Awards competition for innovation with DuPont fluoropolymers.
Easier to play, longer life guitar strings, low permeation tubing and a diamond simulant to evaluate the efficiency of recovery equipment were among the winning entries.
The competition recognized winners from the Americas, Asia-Pacific and European regions. The winners, which were selected for their entry's degree of innovation, breadth of use and commercial significance include:
- Taconic for TacPreg Bond Ply, a composite used in multilayer printed circuit boards (PCB) (second place, Americas region)
- WL Gore for Gore Universal Pipe Gasket, a breakthrough gasket that has low creep, high tensile strength and stress-to-seal characteristics. (third place, Americas region)
- Chukoh for CGS-500L laminate, a long copper (up to one meter) clad laminate for use in high-frequency strip lines, reducing solder connections, for less transmission loss. (second place, Asia region)
DuPont Plunkett Award entries were judged by a panel of independent experts not associated with DuPont, who represent academia, the plastics industry, industry associations or the industry trade press. First place winners will receive $5,000, second place winners $3,000 and third place receives $1,500.
This year's competition is the ninth of the DuPont Plunkett Awards program. The awards were established in 1988 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the discovery of DuPont Teflon PTFE fluoropolymer resin by Roy J. Plunkett, Ph.D., a DuPont scientist.
Founded in 1802, DuPont puts science to work by solving problems and creating solutions that make people's lives better, safer and easier. For more information, visit www.usa.Dupont.com.
