ElectronicAsia 2003 Booming with Southeast Asian Markets
November 6, 2003 |Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Hong Kong — After subdued growth during the first half of 2003, pent-up demand on the Southeast Asian economy was clearly noticeable at electronicAsia in Hong Kong.
More than 28,000 trade visitors swarmed to the regional key fair for electronics components, assemblies and display technologies from October 13 through 16, an increase of 75 percent over last year. The amount of exhibition space and the number of companies from Asia, Europe and the United States that participated in the fair were also up, increasing to 14,250 sq m and 552 exhibitors, respectively. In 2002, that number was 511. As a result, electronicAsia 2003 marked the continuation of growth in the markets of the future in Southeast Asia.
The organizers of electronicAsia 2003 — Munich International Trade Fairs and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council — predicted the crowds at this year's fair.
electronicAsia has been one of the most important trade fairs for the electronics sector in Southeast Asia since 1997. Its range of exhibits includes electronic components and assemblies and display technologies, and each autumn the fair focuses on the latest developments and trends in these sectors. However, electronicAsia is also a gathering and a communications platform for managers and decision-makers from Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas who come here not only to make new contacts, but to tap new sectors and markets for their companies, as well.
The success of electronicAsia can also be traced to the strong international network that the fair is a part of. The "Global electronics" network has allowed Munich International Trade Fairs to export the concepts of its international electronics fairs electronica and Productronica to the world's growth markets and implement them successfully with strong partners in these regions. As a result, the Hong Kong Electronics Fair, Asia's largest trade fair for consumer electronics, is always held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre at the same time as electronicAsia. Its 1,950 exhibitors and more than 48,000 visitors represent a large group of buyers for companies exhibiting at electronicAsia.
The next electronicAsia, the International Trade Fair for Components, Assemblies, Electronics Production and Display Technologies, will be held from October 13 through 16, 2004. Those who wish to take a first step into Asian markets can do so at other events that Munich Trade Fairs International organizes in this region including electronicIndia. The Indian key fair for electronic components, materials and production equipment will be held in New Delhi from February 12 through 15, 2004.
electronicAsia is the regional key fair for components, assemblies, electronics production and display technologies. It is part of Global electronics, MMI's international electronics network. For more information, visit www.global-electronics.net.
