Lockheed Martin MST Business Achieves CMMI Level 5 Maturity Rating

The CMMI Institute has recognized Lockheed Martin’s Mission Systems and Training (MST) business with its highest maturity rating.
The Maturity Level 5 rating was achieved this fall after a rigorous, third-party Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) appraisal focused on the company’s large-scale critical development and operations programs and businesses processes.
CMMI is a process improvement framework that guides organizations to high performance operations, frequently used by technology and software development companies. The U.S. federal government often uses CMMI level and similar accreditations in evaluation of contract proposals.
CMMI Level 5 is the highest designated maturity level, indicating that an organization not only has defined and controlled processes for technology development, but are also optimized for continuous improvement. In addition to the Level 5 maturity rating, Lockheed Martin MST also achieved a Level 3 maturity rating for its smaller-scale programs and business processes. Both CMMI reviews included several weeks of onsite evaluations, multiple employee interview sessions and extensive review of documentation and procedures by independent appraisers.
“Achieving a Level 5 rating sets Lockheed Martin apart and demonstrates to our customers that we use proven processes when performing on contracts and are committed to continuous improvement,” said Rich Lockwood, vice president, Business Performance, Lockheed Martin MST.
