Saline Lectronics Purchases Nikon Metrology X-ray System
January 12, 2017 | Saline Lectronics, Inc.Estimated reading time: 1 minute

Saline Lectronics Inc., a leading electronics contract manufacturer, has purchased and installed a Nikon Metrology XT V 160 Varian 1313Dx X.Tract PCB inspection system with the Advanced Service Kit, AutoTransformer, and Inspect-X Soft-ware. This new system will better enable Lectronics to provide customers with fast, automated 3D component inspection.
Denise Kuenzer, senior process engineer, operating Lectronics’ new Nikon X-ray system
With leading proprietary micro-focus source technology, the XT V 160 is specifically designed for use in production lines and failure analysis laboratories. Real-time X-ray allows users to intuitively navigate complex printed circuit boards and electronic components and quickly trace defects. In automated inspection mode, samples can be inspected at highest throughput. Lectronics has gained the ability to perform batch AXI – this new system will allow the company to automatically inspect an entire printed circuit board assembly.
The X.Tract system uses laminography technology (taking image slices of a particular object) and then reconstructs those slices for a finished, whole 3D image. This will allow Lectronics' engineers to get a detailed view of component connections that are typically difficult to see in 2D X-ray systems; for example, stacked BGAs or complex mixed technology printed circuit board assemblies. The 360 view within X.Tract also supports the isolation of individual image layers enabling detailed inspection of each layer, which will allow Lectronics' technicians to specifically hone in and inspect any suspected areas of concern.
"Saline Lectronics continues to invest in the latest manufacturing equipment available on the market," commented Jason Sciberras, Manufacturing Manager. "Due to limited real estate, continued component miniaturization, and the growing complexity of BGA structure and placement location, PCB design is constantly evolving. The challenge for us as a CM is ensuring that we effectively inspect and validate the intricate connections of these types of components. This Nikon X-ray System will enable us to better adapt to these ever-changing technologies, and remain an industry leader for our customers."

Marcy’s Musings: The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection
05/16/2025 | Marcy LaRont -- Column: Marcy's MusingsFew things in this world are or will ever be perfect. For me, perfection might look like the vivid colors that only Mother Nature can create, the birth of a child, and the inner workings of the human brain. But all else in this physical, tangible world is, in one way or another, inherently flawed. Even the “flawless” diamond is more about the sheer awe and beauty of beholding near-perfection than perfection itself. In many ways, this truth provides great texture and diversity to our world. Yet, we still strive for perfection, and it’s in this that we learn and achieve higher heights than we otherwise would have.
I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
05/16/2025 | Nolan Johnson, I-Connect007My picks for the week include—as a complement to the trade agreement news—SEMI's public support of a bill including new tax credit eligibility for semiconductor manufacturers. This provision feels quite similar to the current PCB investment bill that's been introduced to the current Congress; here’s hoping Congress takes a more holistic approach to electronics manufacturing.
