Comtech Telecommunications Corp. announced today that during its third quarter of fiscal 2017, its Orlando, Florida-based subsidiary, Comtech Systems, Inc., which is part of Comtech’s Government Solutions segment, received a follow-on order for the first ever shipboard troposcatter system to meet the U.S. Military’s growing requirement for offshore, beyond the horizon communications for ships underway. Total orders received for this product during fiscal 2017 have aggregated $1.6 million.
“This first sale of military maritime troposcatter systems represents another breakthrough moment in Comtech’s history, further demonstrating our ability to recognize the communications challenges of the U.S. military and apply Comtech’s industry-leading technology in new environments to meet these needs.”
This shipboard side of the system is a self-contained terminal featuring a three-axis stabilized antenna in conjunction with Comtech’s tropo radio terminal. This maritime terminal is designed to be quickly deployed on and off a variety of marine crafts to give the military maximum mission flexibility. The shore side terminal uses Comtech Systems’ proven Modular Transportable Transmission Tropo System (MTTS), including its tracking Ultra tropo antenna and its 1 Kw Solid State Amplifiers. The system is capable of providing voice, video, and data communications to vessels 50+ nautical miles off shore. This is a major achievement made possible by Comtech Systems’ advanced 50 Mb/s digital troposcatter modem. This project for the U.S. Military builds on other firsts by Comtech which includes providing maritime troposcatter systems to floating and fixed platforms in the oil and gas industry.
Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said, "This first sale of military maritime troposcatter systems represents another breakthrough moment in Comtech’s history, further demonstrating our ability to recognize the communications challenges of the U.S. military and apply Comtech’s industry-leading technology in new environments to meet these needs.”
