The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

Victory Giant Technology to Showcase New Smart PCB Factory and Advanced PCB technologies at PCB West 2017
September 8, 2017 | Victory Giant TechnologyEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Victory Giant Technology, the fastest growing publicly traded PCB fabricator in China, announced it will showcase its new Industry 4.0 Smart Factory along with current advanced PCB technologies for supporting high density and high-speed data transmission at this year’s PCB West show to be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, September 12th -14th.
VGT’s Executive VP & CTO George Dudnikov commented, “VGT has had several years’ experience in automating the PCB fabrication process to reduce cost and improve cycle time. The new Smart Factory will approach the vision of a true Industry 4.0 level factory, combining equipment automation with system intelligence to take PCB manufacturing several levels higher than current industry practice. When fully implemented, this factory will be able to collect, analyze, judge and plan virtually on its own. For a guy like me who remembers programming drilling machines using optical bomb sighting and punched tape, this is pretty cool stuff. “
Clement Du, VGT’s Director of Overseas Sales added, “This is our third year exhibiting at PCB West. It has been a great venue for us to engage with U.S. customers looking for a lower cost supplier of advanced high speed PCBs. The new Smart factory will represent another milestone in VGT’s quest to be the leader in the PCB industry. With our newly formed U.S. subsidiary and San Jose based technical sales office, VGT is prepared to supply U.S. customers world- class global service and support.”
Visitors to the Victory Giant Technology Booth 208 will be able to obtain the following information:
- Glimpse into the PCBs industry’s first Industry 4.0 High Volume Smart Factory
- How intelligent warehousing and logistics will reduce, if not eliminate material leadtime
- How process controls and product monitoring will be automated to improve quality and repeatability
- How robots and AGVs will reduce labor costs
- How an Intelligent Production Execution process will reduce WIP and que times resulting in a flexible manufacturing process capable of handling both small lots and high volume production.
Added Dudnikov,” VGT is one of the few companies in the industry that is building a separate and dedicated PCB Research Center which is located at its Huizhou campus. The center will have researchers who will focus on developing and testing leading edge PCB technologies. This team will collaborate with customer designers and engineers on developing their next generation products and platforms. We are looking forward to meeting current and potential customers at PCB West 2017 Booth 208 to share our plans and provide some insight into the product and service benefits we currently provide.”
