Amerway Offers Solder Pot Analysis, Bath Testing to Ensure Optimum Quality
January 8, 2018 | Amerway Inc.Estimated reading time: 1 minute

Solder manufacturer Amerway Inc. provides solder pot analysis, bath testing, and other metals analysis services to ensure optimum quality control, aided by its state-of-the-art metals analyzer, the SPECTROMAXx system. SPECTROMAXx is from SPECTRO, one of the leading suppliers of analytical instruments, employing optical emission (Arc/Spark OES, ICP-OES) and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) technology.
"Amerway customers in SMT PCB assembly understand the critical need for absolute accuracy, quality control, and solder alloy purity," Tim Brown, sales manager, said. "With so many different lead-free alloys currently in use in electronics manufacturing today, maintaining pot purity for wave and selective soldering processes is absolutely required to maintain an optimized soldering process and end-product reliability. Different alloys melt and solidify at different specific temperatures, based on the requirements of a particular application. Our Amerway laboratory facility and SPECTROMAXx system give us the ability to provide our customers with peace of mind, quick testing, and precise, reliable results and reports."
The SPECTROMAXx Metal Analyzer is used for incoming and outgoing inspections and provides metals analysis of carbon, phosphorous, sulfur and nitrogen. Its testing covers 10 matrices, 65 methods and 54 elements with only one sample. The principle is optical emission spectroscopy (arc spark OES or spark OES). There are currently more than 10,000 SPECTROMAXx systems operating worldwide.

Knocking Down the Bone Pile: Revamp Your Components with BGA Reballing
10/14/2025 | Nash Bell -- Column: Knocking Down the Bone PileBall grid array (BGA) components evolved from pin grid array (PGA) devices, carrying over many of the same electrical benefits while introducing a more compact and efficient interconnect format. Instead of discrete leads, BGAs rely on solder balls on the underside of the package to connect to the PCB. In some advanced designs, solder balls are on both the PCB and the BGA package. In stacked configurations, such as package-on-package (PoP), these solder balls also interconnect multiple packages, enabling higher functionality in a smaller footprint.
