The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.
Technology Roadmaps
In this issue of PCB007 Magazine, we discuss technology roadmaps and what they mean for our businesses, providing context to the all-important question: What is my company’s technology roadmap?

Cirexx Achieves AS9100D Certification
June 28, 2018 | Cirexx InternationalEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Cirexx International has acquired AS9100D Standard Certifications in only four months. The AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) is a standard for organizations that design and manufacture products for the defense and aerospace industries. It is a rigorous standard prepared by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG), and covers aviation, space and defense industry requirements.
In late 2016, the standard underwent significant changes with many of the requirements being modified and enhanced. AS9100:2016 includes requirements specific to:
Context of the organization
- Leadership
- Planning
- Support
- Operation
- Performance Evaluation
- Improvement
Within these sections, the new requirements address: risk based thinking, concept of change, organizational knowledge, product safety, counterfeit parts prevention, awareness, human factors, and obsolescence.
The predicate standard AS9100C was now to be replaced by AS9100D, but doing so requires the applicant company to establish significant and measurable evidence supporting the categories mentioned above.
Most companies pursuing a transition from AS9100C to AS9100D typically take up to a year to certify, and during the audit period, the average company will receive no less than 5-10 major corrections and 20-30 minor corrections.
In this case, Cirexx was the applicant and secured a well-known independent audit firm to evaluate Cirexx’ readiness to transition from AS9100C to AS9100D.
Cirexx personnel rewrote all of the procedures and work instructions, updated forms, and demonstrated measurable evidence that allowed auditors to complete the transition in only four months.
An intense and demanding three-day audit revealed only three minor corrections, as well.
This practically unheard-of audit result speaks to the level of competency that the Cirexx organization maintains intrinsically, signaling to the defense and aerospace communities a supplier with an organizational mindset that they can trust.
