Murray Percival Welcomes Detroit Cristo Rey Students
September 28, 2018 | Murray Percival CompanyEstimated reading time: 1 minute
The Murray Percival Co. has welcomed students from Detroit Cristo Rey High School as a part of the school’s Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP). Detroit Cristo Rey is a Catholic High School providing high-quality college prep education to students from economically disadvantaged families in Detroit. Currently DCR has 350 students and 20 teachers with an astounding 100% college placement for their students since the implementation of the work-study program seven years ago.
The unique, nationally successful work-study model, enables each student to earn a portion of their educational costs by working in entry-level positions in companies in the Detroit area. Through the work-study program, the students gain invaluable experience in professional environments enabling them to make informed decisions about their abilities and their future. Murray Percival is the beneficiary of the student workers’ productivity and contributions—allowing all to partake in developing the talent pool for Detroit’s future.
Murray Percival student employees work throughout the school year, beginning the day after Labor Day and working until the middle of June. By combining two common business concepts—employee leasing and job sharing—the company achieves uncommon results.
The Murray Percival Co. will support two students this year, Jovany Diaz-Don (sophomore) and Emilo Zuniga (freshman). While working at the Murray Percival Co. Jovany and Emilo will gain experience in numerous departments such as customer service, accounting and sales from which they will not only acquire technical and business skills but will also learn lifelong behaviors that they can carry with them into college and beyond in their professional futures.
