Leonardo DRS Receives Contract to Deliver P5 Combat Training Subsystem

Leonardo DRS, Inc. was awarded a contract from Cubic Global Defense, a business division of Cubic Corporation, to deliver more than 500 P5 combat training system (P5CTS) internal subsystems for the latest-generation air combat training for the F-35 Lightning II. With this order, over 1,000 F-35 aircraft will be equipped with this training equipment and delivered to multiple F-35 user nations.
As the principal subcontractor to Cubic Global Defense, Leonardo DRS’s Airborne and Intelligence Systems business unit designs, produces, and supports the P5CTS Internal Subsystems component of the Air Combat Training System.
The P5CTS Internal Subsystems enables real-time, live monitoring and recorded mission data of air-to-air, air-to-ground and surface-to-air training scenarios for both real-time training and post mission analysis. Unlike the wing-mounted P5CTS pods, the internal subsystem is placed inside the F-35.
“We are proud to be chosen to provide our high-performing technology as an internal subsystem for the F-35 so it can effectively train with fourth-generation combat aircraft that use the P5CTS pods,” said Larry Ezell, Vice President General Manager of the Leonardo DRS Airborne and Intelligence Systems business unit. “This technology has become the standard in the current generation of air combat training with over one million service hours of test and training sorties just on the P5CTS pod systems alone,” he said.
The P5CTS Internal Subsystems will be delivered to Cubic Corporation over the next four years as part of Lockheed Martin’s F-35 production Lots 12-14.
