The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

Meiko, Zhen Ding to Expand Substrate-like PCB Capacity
November 27, 2018 | DigitimesEstimated reading time: Less than a minute
The market for substrate-like PCBs (SLP) is likely to become an oligopoly, given that only a few leading PCB manufacturers are capable of developing related production technologies and scaling up their output according to customer demand, according to a Digitimes report.
Japan's Meiko Electronics and Taiwan-based Zhen Ding Technology are among the few PCB suppliers looking to expand their SLP production capacities. These players have already improved their SLP production yield rates to mature levels while securing orders from major smartphone brands. According to Digitimes, several other PCB firms capable of producing SLP products continue to take a wait-and-see approach with no plans to scale up their SLP output, given that the SLP adoption among smartphones is still low. Apple and Samsung remain the major companies adopting SLP in their smartphone devices.
