Taiwan-based PCB makers are facing fierce price competition from China-based rivals in the mid-range to entry-level segments of the car-use electronic component industry, but in the high-end segment, strong development for ADAS, electric vehicles and autonomous driving is expected to create opportunities, a Digitimes report cites sources from the upstream supply chain.
However, high costs from manufacturing of high-end components still heap pressure on the PCB makers, and to maintain their profitability, most of these makers have started filtering out mid-range to entry-level orders that offer weak gross margins, which benefits China-based newcomers that mainly compete for orders by offering low quotes.
