March 11, 2019 | SEMIEstimated reading time: 3 minutes
MedTech, autonomous driving and other disruptive technologies will be showcased at the SEMI Industry Strategy Symposium (ISS Europe), 31 March - 2 April 2019 in Milan, Italy, as top European executives, researchers and academics gather to explore solutions to the region’s most pressing strategic, economic and social challenges. Technology experts and visionaries will discuss how Europe can seize the full potential of digital innovation through collaborations in the electronics, components and systems communities. ISS Europe 2019 registration is open.
ISS Europe is a powerful forum for identifying opportunities to drive collaboration, innovation and business in the digital economy. Highlights include:
Market Opportunities and Investments
Accenture, DG Growth, European Investment Bank and Roland Berger will kick off the symposium, highlighting market opportunities while exploring what attracts investment in the digital economy and how companies must adapt to competitive challenges.
Electronics Manufacturing Value Chain and Ecosystems
Industry leaders will examine value chains in key areas of artificial intelligence (AI) and the digital economy such as mobility and autonomous driving, MedTech, manufacturing, energy optimization and security. Critical players will also explore how ecosystems of these pillars of industry growth can flourish through advanced, collaborative research and development and exploit technology for maximum commercial benefit. The crucial role of public funding in catalyzing this approach will be a central theme. Participants include Synopsys, BMW, STMicroelectronics, Siemens Healthcare, Schneider Electric, Gemalto, ASML, Robert Bosch, GreenWaves Technologies, Unico ViLynx, Recif, Sentronics metrology, and Tu/ecomotive, University of Eindhoven.
Disruptive Technology Issues
Intel, Amazon, Sense Reply, Microtronic, Cadence, DG Connect and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center will delve into the importance and risks of disruptive innovations such as AI. New applications, systems and products require radically different approaches than conventional supply chains support. Europe must be alert to these changes and either exploit new opportunities or adapt current industrial approaches to remain competitive.
Spotlight on Diversity and Inclusion
A diverse, highly skilled workforce is crucial to the industry’s ability to innovate and remain competitive amidst digital disruption. Francoise Chombar, CEO, Melexis, Kevin Crofton, Corporate EVP of Orbotech and President of SPTS Technologies, and Michael Reeve, General Manager of EMEA Semiconductor, Edwards, discuss the crucial role of diversity and inclusion in fostering a workplace culture that underpins higher levels of productivity, creativity, innovation and profitability.
Panel Discussion: Strategies for Competing Globally, Electronics Innovation Trends, and Challenges of the Digital Economy
Moderated by Gerd Teepe, T3-Technologies, the panel will discuss how to leverage private, venture and public stakeholders to expand the European semiconductor ecosystem. Panelists include:
- Lorenzo Fioramonti, vice-minister of Education, University and Research, Government of Italy
- Harald Gruber, head of the Digital Infrastructure, European Investment Bank (EIB)
- Alain Jarre, chairman & CEO, Recif
- Patrick Leinenbach, senior vice president of Automotive Electronics, Robert Bosch
- Ina Sebastian, senior director R&D&I Policy, Infineon
