MicroCare to Deliver Cleaning Presentation at SMTA Silicon Valley Expo
November 11, 2019 | MicroCare Corp.Estimated reading time: 1 minute
MicroCare Corporation is presenting at the SMTA Silicon Valley Expo & Tech Forum on December 4, 2019 in San Jose, California. The full-day reliability-focused event will bring together electronics industry leaders to deliver presentations in the areas of their own expertise.
MicroCare Technical Consultant John Hoffman will be on hand to present Cleaning for Reliability in Electronics, illustrating how electronics cleaning can be an important tool for enhancing reliability.
“Successful critical cleaning involves first identifying the contaminant and then selecting the best combination of cleaning fluid and method to effectively remove it. Balancing these factors properly can enhance cleaning reliability,” Hoffman said. “The key is to improve productivity, and boost quality in a safe, economical, and environmentally-acceptable manner.”
Hoffman has been working in the field of critical cleaning for more than 50 years. He is an expert on vapor degreasing and thermodynamics and helps customers improve their cleaning processes in industries as diverse as electronics, metal finishing, transportation, photonics, medical devices, and aerospace.
Also presenting will be E. Jan Vardaman, president of TechSearch International. Her presentation, Trends in 5G and the Impact on the Electronics Industry, examines the status of the 5G rollout and the PCB requirements to support it.
Dock Brown from ANSYS will present Ceramic Capacitors-Recent Failures and Mitigations, which reviews recent failures and mitigations in ceramic capacitors in terms of construction and manufacturing, electrical properties, mechanical properties, failure characteristics, counterfeit indications and qualification tactics.
Mike Konrad from Aqueous Technologies will speak about why we are cleaning no-cleans in his presentation Contamination, Harsh Environments, and a New IPC Cleanliness Testing Standard - The Perfect Storm of Change. His presentation will outline factors that affect residue tolerance and methods to predict an assembly’s residue tolerance.
Wrapping up the symposium will be Bubba Powers, Manager of Technical Services for Weller Professional Tools – North America. He will present Reliability of Robotics for Electronics Manufacturing, which gives an overview of the process of automation in the soldering workplace, and he discusses what factors are critical for high-reliability electronics in both manual and automated manufacturing environments.
The symposium is open to SMTA member and non-members. Click here to register and to contact the SMTA Silicon Valley Chapter.

Podcast Review: On the Line with… Designing for Reality
05/09/2024 | Duane Benson, Positive Edge LLCAs a technologist, if I were forced to come up with just one recurring theme that I might call a professional “nemesis,” it would be the difference between theory and reality. A lot of technology we have at our disposal works well in theory but falls short when reality hits. That’s not the only reason I chose to listen to and review On the Line with… Designing for Reality, featuring a series of conversations with ASC Sunstone’s Matt Stevenson, but it certainly helped that the title caught my eye.
