Current IssueThe Rise of Data
Analytics is a given in this industry, but the threshold is changing. If you think you're too small to invest in analytics, you may need to reconsider. So how do you do analytics better? What are the new tools, and how do you get started?
Counterfeit Concerns
The distribution of counterfeit parts has become much more sophisticated in the past decade, and there's no reason to believe that trend is going to be stopping any time soon. What might crop up in the near future?
Solder Printing
In this issue, we turn a discerning eye to solder paste printing. As apertures shrink, and the requirement for multiple thicknesses of paste on the same board becomes more commonplace, consistently and accurately applying paste becomes ever more challenging.

Datest to Exhibit at SMTA Dallas and Houston Expos
March 12, 2020 | DatestEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Datest, a leading provider of advanced, efficient and mission-critical in-circuit testing, test engineering and X-ray inspection solutions, announces that it will exhibit the SMTA Dallas and Houston Expo & Tech Forums. The Dallas Expo is scheduled to take place Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the Plano Event Center in Plano, TX, and the Houston Expo will be held Thursday, March 26, 2020 at The Stafford Centre in Stafford, TX.
Datest’s President Robert Boguski will present “CT Scanning: 3 Case Studies” at the SMTA Dallas Expo. Digital Computed Tomography, or CT Scanning, has advanced in both equipment as well as techniques in recent years, such that it has now become the method of choice in many applications where workmanship, fabrication, process and component-related defects are difficult, and often otherwise virtually impossible to find. Nevertheless, misconceptions linger concerning the suitability of CT scanning as a nondestructive test and failure analysis methodology.
This presentation will address some of those misconceptions by featuring three specific and recent applications of CT scanning, illustrating its wide potential for use as a diagnostic tool. Examples will be shown from the medical/biotech, military/aerospace, and electronics sectors. In each case Mr. Boguski will state the specific problem to be addressed; highlight some significant, if not decisive images; and show conclusions drawn from compilation and analysis of the images, with any applicable lessons learned along the way.
Additionally, the team will discuss the Datest’s testing, engineering and PCB reverse engineering services, and value-added services including:
- Bonepile Rehabilitation Services
- 3D and CT-Scan X-ray/Failure Analysis Service
- Improved and enhanced flying probe test services
- Improved and enhanced in-circuit testing services
- Datest’s “ecosystem” of partner companies providing analytical laboratory services in the areas of failure analysis, root cause detection, and materials science studies
Datest provides advanced test engineering and inspection services to the CM/EMS and OEM communities, and many other industries. The team prides itself on their speed and flexibility in providing the best solution to each customer’s unique testing needs. With more than 34 years of expertise, Datest offers in-circuit testing (ICT), flying probe testing, X-ray inspection, boundary scan/JTAG testing, functional testing, failure analysis and other related services. Datest is an
