Happy Memorial Day from I-Connect007
June 2, 2021 | I-Connect007 Editorial TeamEstimated reading time: Less than a minute
Today is Memorial Day, a federal holiday in the United States. Celebrated on the last Monday each May, Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
The original “Decoration Day” was held on May 30, 1868 to honor “comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land.” The holiday now honors American military personnel who died in all wars.
In 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May. Memorial Day has been a federal holiday since 1971.
I-Connect007 salutes the members of the U.S. military, past and present, especially those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
