The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

Insulectro Joins Printed Circuit Board Association of America As Founding Member
August 11, 2021 | InsulectroEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Insulectro, the largest distributor of materials for use in the printed circuit board and printed electronics industries, has joined the printed circuit board advocacy group, PCBAA, as a founding member.
The Printed Circuit Board Association of America is a consortium of U.S.-based companies that support initiatives to advance the U.S. domestic product of microelectronics, specifically printed circuit boards, and the materials needed in their manufacture.
“It’s no secret the U.S. PCB industry has been playing catch-up for the past 20 years, and Insulectro is going all in to do our part,” stated Patrick Redfern, Insulectro CEO and President.
“It’s exciting to join our other founding members and colleagues—AGY, Calumet Electronics, Isola Group, Summit Interconnect, and TTM Technologies—in making a statement about the need for change in our industry."
“PCBAA seeks to promote an environment in which U.S.-based printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturers can thrive. The organization values the market fairness and a level playing field on which U.S. PCB manufacturers can compete against competitors subsidized by foreign governments,” Redfern continued. “To find out more about PCBAA, go to PCBAA.org. You can follow the organization’s progress, mission, and apply for membership. Join us. We are going to make a difference.”
