The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

Haverhill-based Circuit Board Fabricator IMI Installs Keyence Digital Microscope System
August 26, 2021 | IMI, Inc.Estimated reading time: 1 minute
IMI, Inc. announced that they have acquired and installed a Keyence VHX-970 Digital Microscope with VH-ZST Zoom Lens. This sophisticated microscope system will complement IMI’s current inspection systems and further improve overall inspection, test and measurement capability.
The Keyence VHX-970 microscope has a zoom lens with a range of 20x to 2000x and the capability to transmit pictures or data of items being measured. This powerful vision system boasts a sophisticated lighting system that makes measurements fast and accurate, especially in the Z-axis, and provides complete data reporting for individual jobs or comparison to parts produced on previous job runs. The VHX-970 is fully networkable to IMI’s quality systems and will feed results into several databases and forms. All of which will streamline the quality assurance function and provide critical data to IMI’s customers, as well as engineering and process refinement efforts
Peter Bigelow, President & CEO commented, “The addition of this state-of-the-art Keyence microscope system will allow us to continue to make and inspect more complex substrates and circuit boards faster, and with greater attention to the ever-increasing verification and validation requirements our world-class customers are expecting while providing our internal team with much more data so we can refine and improve materials and process trends.”
