Today is Labor Day, a holiday in the United States, and Labour Day in Canada. A federal holiday since 1894, Labor Day honors the American labor movement and the contributions of of laborers in the creation of the United States. Labor Day falls on the first Monday of September, and is often considered the last day of summer.
"To take advantage of large numbers of potential customers with time to shop, Labor Day has become an important weekend for discounts and allowances by many retailers in the United States, especially for back-to-school sales. Some retailers claim it is one of the largest sale dates of the year, second only to the Christmas season's Black Friday." (Source: Wikipedia)
