Calumet Electronics Supporting Aerospace Growth in Michigan
October 19, 2021 | Calumet ElectronicsEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Upper Michigan-based Calumet Electronics is developing next-generation technology to advance commercial aerospace, satellite, space and DoD systems. The company has established itself as one of the most important domestic printed circuit board suppliers with its introduction of America’s smallest, lightest, fastest PCB (Printed Circuit Boards). These groundbreaking technologies have the ability to power the future of aerospace for the nation.
“Michigan is meeting the demand of the aerospace industry,” notes Tony Vernaci, president of Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (AIAM). “Demand is increasing in all aerospace sectors and Michigan is already a leader in design, technology and manufacturing. Calumet is another excellent example of our over 900 aerospace suppliers who are committed to innovating game-changing technologies and increasing manufacturing capabilities.”
Calumet understands the challenges and opportunities that are unique to aerospace. Dr. Meredith LaBeau, Chief Technology Officer at Calumet Electronics explains, “Satellite and space technologies advance very quickly, so the industry needs suppliers and manufacturers who can keep up with rapid innovations. We’re flexible and have a brilliant engineering team willing to take some risks so we can continue to anticipate industry needs.” Calumet Electronics also fulfills the industry’s security requirements. “We’re 100% American-owned, with no offshoring, outsourcing, or brokering. And our remote location is a bonus for security-minded customers.”
For over a century, Michigan has been the leader in U.S. manufacturing. With deep experience in building advanced systems for commercial and defense applications, a strong STEM talent pipeline, and significant research and development investments, the state is embracing its future in aerospace. Aerospace in Michigan is already supported by more than 30,000 direct jobs and over 900 companies. It is the fastest growing state in percentage growth of AS9100 certifications and has the largest concentration of engineers of any state in the country.
“We’re very excited to see Michigan making traction in aerospace,” says LaBeau. “Calumet and many other Michigan companies are ready to step up and support this booming industry. American aerospace needs Michigan right now.”
